I am a worker in a large research library. Over the years, I have worn many hats and had many duties and I’ve learned a lot. A brief list of my past duties would include working in the Mail Room (where I started 3 decades ago), receiving journals, working with vendors, training, hiring, supervising staff, managing one of the largest microfilm collections in the country, and helping patrons face-to-face. Along the way, I picked up a few programming skills and I’ve tried, in my sundry efforts, to make use of these skills wherever I thought they might help.
My latest effort along these lines is an ambitious little thing I call the “Journal List Project.” I started this blog primarily to keep notes about my efforts on this project. But I hope that it may also help my colleagues keep up with it, too. Of course, the nature of the Journal List Project is such that it touches many other aspects of library work and some of my other projects. These include (but are not limited to) SFX (and the Electronic Journal Locator), SEESAU, Vo
yager, FirstSearch, ISI Journal Citation Reports, ISSN difficulties, publisher/vendor identification of titles (and not just bibliographic concerns), electronic resource User statistics, SOAP, SUSHI, et cetera…
I apologize in advance for what may be the rather telegraphic nature of this blog, for errors, omissions, and misguided opinions. All are unintentional, I assure you! Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about my activities!
